At John Wheeldon Primary Academy, we consider the safeguarding of children to be our most important priority.  Children need to feel safe and cared for in order to learn and thrive.  In our school, we follow guidance set out in “Keeping Children Safe in Education” (updated annually), which defines Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children as:

Protecting children from maltreatment.

Preventing impairment of children’s health or development.

Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.

Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

To ensure this statutory guidance is followed, we act to enable all children to have the best outcomes through our safeguarding measures. To do this, we have clear procedures in place to ensure that disclosures or allegations are taken seriously, recorded correctly and investigated.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child’s welfare.  We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

Early Help Support

At John Wheeldon Primary Academy, we understand that from time-to-time family life can have its complications.  Sometimes families may need some extra help.  To support and advise you at such times we have an Early Help Offer.

We believe that by working together we can better support children and families.  Sometime families need support from a wide range of agencies or people, for example, health services, housing services, family support workers, social workers, food banks and local police.

As a school we may be able to signpost a range of services to support families beyond the education setting.

Please contact Mrs Grundy on Class dojo for more information.
