“No matter what type of school they attend, it is important that all children gain an understanding of the world they are growing up in, and learn how to live alongside, and show respect for, a diverse range of people..” Ofsted

At John Wheeldon Primary Academy, we believe that it is important that all children gain an understanding of the world they are growing up in, and learn how to live alongside, and show respect for, a diverse range of people.

We believe that ANY young person from ANY background deserves an equal chance to be successful in whatever they choose to do. We believe that children should be aware of the protected characteristics and show respect to those who share the protected characteristics.

Through our PROUD values we consider how our unique qualities can be celebrated and encouraged. Each year, we explore what makes us become outstanding citizens by gaining an understanding of the world around us and supporting our community through planned events.

Through our discussions, we promote equality and pupils’ understanding of the protected characteristics.

We ensure that our children are given opportunities to develop age-appropriate knowledge and understanding through a well-planned and delivered curriculum.

We also celebrate different key events such as,

  • World Mental Health Day
  • Black History Month
  • Interfaith Week
  • Anti-Bullying Week
  • International Human Rights Day
  • Mental Health Awareness Week
  • Refugee Week
  • Autism Awareness Month
  • Bastille Day
  • Religious Festivals and Celebrations

Throughout the year, this ensures that we are regularly promoting equality and diversity in our school. We believe that by promoting this awareness and understanding, we prepare our children with the knowledge to protect themselves and ensure that others are protected.
